Joshua Small · North Carolina

Photography is how I live, not how I make a living.

16+ years behind a Nikon, in the studio and on location: fashion, portraits, families, weddings, sports, landscapes and animals.

Why One Small Photo

Dusty, a chestnut horse with a white blaze and blond mane, grazing beside a metal gate in autumn.
Dusty, Virginia, 2014

Small is the family name. One Small Family, One Small Studio, One Small Photo: everything made here carries it.

In 2014, a portrait of Dusty, a horse from Virginia, was published in Photographer's Forum Magazine.

Back then photography was my living. I earned an art degree in photography from Guilford Technical Community College and spent those years behind the camera full time, much of it in fashion. Most of what you'll find here comes from that stretch, roughly 2011 to 2014.

Since then I've put my time into music, software development and raising a family. The camera still comes out, just for the pictures I want to make. This is where that work lives.
